Skin spots: what are they?

Here’s a summary of two of the most common, yet non-serious skin spots you may notice on your body. If one turns up, don’t panic. Instead, consult your SkinVision app and, if necessary, see your dermatologist for an evaluation.

Cherry Angioma

Small and red, this can look like a little red bump, though it may lie completely flat on your skin. It’s a cluster of dilated blood vessels. They become more visible as you age, and can also run in families. So if your older sister has some, chances are you will, too. The good news: they’re benign. They are also known as senile angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots.

These type of skin spots are typically not a cause for concern unless it bleeds often or changes in size, shape, or color. Talk to your doctor if you notice any changes in appearance or bleeding; these could be skin cancer symptoms.

Skin Tag

They can be so uncomfortable, especially if they’re located around your bra strap, waistband, or wherever clothing rubs. That rubbing action can make them irritated and inflamed. But don’t worry, as skin tags are generally harmless fleshy skin spots that are usually the same color as your skin – so they blend in. If they’re not bothering you, you don’t have to worry about removing them. And if they are, don’t try to get rid of them yourself by cutting or scraping them off. The only safe course is to see your dermatologist, but try consulting your SkinVision app first.
